The ultimate goal is to
teach our students skills that will help them make good decisions.
This is not always an easy assignment considering how fast the technology
and cultural standards change in today's world.
At Sanford School, computers with Internet
access are available to students in areas supervised by teachers.
Two student labs, one in Middle School and one in Upper School,
are open to students unsupervised but are on separately switched
subnets so students can use all network services, except Internet
access. Teachers can request Internet access to these areas for
special classes by contacting the Helpdesk.
In response to growing concerns about productivity
and social networking issues, Internet sites are now filtered at
our firebox using a commercial database that is regularly updated.
At this time, only sexually explicit and social networking sites
are being blocked. Teachers can request specific sites be blocked
or unblocked by contacting the IT department. All requests are reviewed
by Chip MacKelcan (Head of School), Mark Wagner (Head of Upper School),
and Suzy Hoffmann (Director of Technology). While we regret having
to do this, we must act responsibly towards our younger students
and to set technology standards on campus that are consistent with
the Honor Code.

Director of Technology
